Unified threat management systems combine very different security systems on a single platform and thus provide security for the entire network with just a single system at a single central point. What is more, they do so without losing the flexibility of conventional security systems. The individual security components can be used, but do not need to be. The rapid breakthrough of these systems is due, among other things, to the system consolidation that has taken place and the potential it has opened up for cutting both investment and running costs.

A unified threat management system must include a combination of firewall, network intrusion prevention system and gateway virus scanner. Funkwerk UTM offers much more than this, however, and also integrates a complete VPN gateway, a spam filter and an application level gateway. User authentication both in-band and out-of-band is achieved by a local user database and interfaces to Radius and LDAP. Funkwerk UTM is also equipped with a dedicated certificate server for simplifying the certificate management process.

The Funkwerk UTM system is generally employed at the gateway to the Internet, where it controls incoming and outgoing data traffic in real time. Its coordinated components allow it to identify and block viruses, network-based worms, file-based worms, trojans, spam mail, policy violations, Dos attacks, backdoor attacks and other hacker attacks. Funkwerk UTM thus provides complete gateway security. An additional firewall, additional gateway virus protection, additional VPN gateway or additional spam filter are no longer required

The Funkwerk UTM Multi-Inspection Firewall is the first checkpoint for all data traffic. Just like a dependable doorman, the firewall only enables data you really want to pass unhindered. It monitors all data packets between the internal network and external networks that are to be protected. The firewall rules can be configured easily and without considerable effort, as can all functions of Funkwerk UTM. The firewall can be put into operation within a very short time to begin its monitoring duties. If required, users can also be authenticated by means of local passwords, LDAP or Radius, both in-band and out-of-band.
